I had read a while back that that's where the name Madison actually became popular from. In the movie "Splash", Tom Hanks asks Daryl Hannah for her name, and she looks around and picks out the name Madison, from the Madison Avenue street sign. After that movie it started seeing use as a girl's first name (as opposed to [I assume] James Madison's last name).
