Friday

My coworker, "the wife", and I decided that we needed a change at lunchtime from our usual food brought from home so we went down the street to Ninfas. We walked down to some little shops down the way.
The shops are called Spice and are pretty freu freu. I liked the way the light was coming in through the upper windows on this shot.
I can't afford to buy anything in the store but it is fun to look. They have some cute ideas.

A couple of doors hinged together and covered with crosses.
Heading back to the car.
This would be a good place for someone to pose for a picture.

Happy Halloween

Our favorite trick-or-treater from last year..........and another scary person......

Photography Class

The teacher wanted us to go outside and take pictures last night but it was pretty cool here and with a class full of women, he wasn't getting a lot of cooperation. We finally just looked at the assignment pictures we took. There are such different "likes" in the class, you can tell what each person's interests are by the subjects in their pictures. At the end of class, we discussed how to store our photos.

Next week's assignment is for us to do a Portrait. Should be interesting......

Sunday Celebration

Today, we celebrated the 18th birthday of niece/Katie and nephew/Lucas. It just can't be!! It seems just yesterday that they came into our lives and completed our family.
Papa and Jonathan chillin' and watchin' the Dallas Cowboys. The weather was so nice we ended up outside with our cameras again. I didn't have the lens that I needed on the camera so I took a lot of pictures that were not too good, this being the better of them.I provided my own prop for my assignment photo. I took a bit of ribbing about it, but I was just trying to do something with a holiday theme.....
......but this is probably the shot I will use.

Next Assignment: Leading Lines

Monday night's class found us outside again to take pictures. Someone mentioned that they would like to learn how to take silhouette shots. The sun was almost a bit too high but we could get the idea if our model (the teacher) was directly in front of it, and we got really low on the ground.
Then I tried to get a lens flare, the colored circles on this picture.
Then we all converged on these weeds that are growing on campus. There aren't a lot of interesting subjects out there to use.

Next week we are to shoot leading lines.
Use leading lines to draw the viewer's eye through the photograph. This is an especially powerful technique to draw the viewer's attention to one or more intended subjects or a single focal point.
BTW - not my picture. Snagged from the internet.

Texture

Brandon, Jeremy, and I went around in the yard yesterday taking pictures of texture for my class tonight. They are way ahead of me as far as knowing what they are doing but they get a kick out of doing my assignments along with me.
I will probably submit this one.
Clothesline pole
Nephew Lucas' leg, I will probably submit this one, too. :)

Napping

Morgan caught me and Jonathan catching a little afternoon nap.......photography will wear you out!!!

Afternoon of babysitting

Jonathan spent Saturday afternoon with me while his mom and dad did some painting at their house. Greg was at a softball tournament so it was just me, Morgan, and Fritz. I set up the tripod and tried to get some pictures of him. It just wasn't a good day for baby photography. He looks pretty content here, though.
Almost got a smile out of him. It is hard to be the photographer AND the smile producer.....
We had a lot of this. Jonathan still doesn't quite have the hang of sitting up alone.
He was just as frustrated as I was.
I finally gave up. He was not a happy camper at this point. Will try again on another day.

UIL Marching Contest

Saturday morning was marching contest for the Robinson band. They marched at 9:45 AM in Waco so it worked out really well.
Thank goodness Morgan wears her glasses. I know pretty much where she is going to be but they all start to look alike in those uniforms.
The sun was behind the band which made for some unusual shadow-play while they marched.
These three marchers are quite in step with each other.
The band got a Division 1 rating, which means they get to proceed to the next level, since this is a state year for 3-A bands. Way to go band!! Way to go Morgan!!

Robinson Homecoming

Robinson homecoming was Friday night. Marci and Jeremy took Jonathan to his first football game. The weather was really nice, just cool enough to be comfortable. This isn't the best of pictures, it is a bit blurry but the best of the bunch.

Bunko

I play in a bunko group and it was my turn tonight to host it at the house. There are 12 of us in the group so we only have to do it once a year but it is always a chore to get dinner/dessert ready for 12 hungry, yapping women. I took the day off from work and cooked and cleaned. For appetizers while waiting for everyone to arrive, I had done the Southwest Succotash and some cream cheese with raspberry chiptole sauce on it. I also made my yummy chicken spaghetti, a salad, and garlic bread. All of us really like chocolate so I kinda went overboard. This is a trifle made with brownies, chocolate pudding, cool whip, and toffee chips. It was really good and amazingly, not too heavy.
Then there were these chocolate truffles. It was the first time I ever made them and they turned out pretty good. Morgan really liked them. She snuck several before the ladies got here. I also have a recipe for cake balls, which are similar to these but have cake under the chocolate coating. I will try them when I have more time and not expecting 11 hungry women!!

Happy Boss' Day!!

Model

Monday was a holiday for us from work/school so we spent the day on the motorcycle but knew we had to return fairly early because Greg had a football game and I had my photography class. I slapped a cap on my head and headed out. We spent the better part of the class taking pictures outside, then went inside when it got too dark. He was asking for model volunteers along the way and said everyone was going to get their turn. Well, what the heck. I raised my hand because no one else would volunteer. This picture was taken by my coworker, "the wife", and she just had to pass it along to me. Man, I see where Jonathan gets that frown of his from.....

Our assignment this week was aperture and shutter. This was my slow shutter speed, which blurred the motion.

A large aperture, making the background blurry (depth of field).

Our assignment for next week is to take a picture that says "texture". Still thinking about that one.......

Sunrise

I guess I am enamored with sunrises. Maybe because I missed so many of them for so many years....

Roses

These came to work Friday. Not our anniversary, not my birthday.....hmmmm.
They are beautiful. Thank you, honey!!

Mr. Kelly

This makes me smile whenever I look at it so I just had to share. This is a sketch of Greg that one of his students gave him. I like the flat top. Greg seemed to think he had sort of a Hispanic look to him. My coworker, "the wife", said he looked a bit like Mr. Potato Head......

Report cards have come out and Greg survived his first six weeks of teaching!! He puts in lots of hours, puts up with upset parents, deals with undisciplined children, and grades lots of papers!!
Congrats, Greg!! I am so proud of you!!
