Saturday

Surprise!! Greg's basketball games got cancelled so we had a free day. I suggested we go downtown to Lolita's and have a mexican breakfast. We both got huevos rancheros, with two fried eggs, potato chunks, bacon, refried beans, and flour tortillas. I didn't move fast enough for a before picture but I got this after picture. Greg didn't like his breakfast at all!!!!!
Then we went just a few blocks to see Tito, Greg's barber. THAT didn't take long..... :)
Turns out, Texas A&M is in town to play football against Baylor. It is an Aggie tradition for the corps to march through downtown. They stretched for blocks and blocks.
Finally, the band.
Tubas
The mounted corps.

Once the parade was over, we stopped at Ninfas and had lunch. This time, I snapped off a picture in the midst of the meal, spinach enchiladas.
Later, we hit a couple of home improvement stores, Academy and Sports Authority, and finally the grocery store. It has been a full day. Maybe we will go get Mexican food for supper..... :) And better yet, Baylor beat A&M!! Sic em, bears!!!

Zow!!

I feel like the fuel police. This is at another truck stop that is on my way to work.....

What was I thinking?

Greg asked me a couple of weeks ago if I could help chaperone a field trip for his kids. I was thinking "great, I can take the day off from work". Then last Thursday it dawned on me. "Your field trip doesn't happen to be next Tuesday, the 11th, does it?" Yep, you guessed it. I spent my day off with a bunch of 5th graders at the symphony. Although I really did enjoy it. It was the Baylor Symphony and the music had an "animal" theme.

This little gal is a cutie. She told me that Greg told them that I was a good cook (sounds like he prompted them well on what to say). She told Greg "your wife is nice" on the way out the door. I am not sure what this symbol means but I have noticed that all the kids do it when posing for pictures.
The Baylor dance group joined the Symphony, all dressed as an animal, similar to productions of Lion King that I have seen on tv.
The Baylor Bear came out to join this young man as he played the bassoon.
Waco Hall on Baylor campus holds 2,200 and I think it was packed to capacity with kids and teachers.
This young man was all too happy to pose and make faces for me. This was his "mad" face.
More requests for pictures in the bus on the way home.

Veterans Day

A special thanks to our military serving here and all over the world, past and present. God bless them all!!
This dapper young man is my dad. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the US Army. Dad didn't talk a lot to us about his time in the military. I do remember him talking about being in Italy and marching all over that country.
Thanks, dad, for the sacrifices you made for our country.......and the ones you made for me!

Check this out!!

No, not the price of the pecan swirl.......
......the price of a gallon of gas!! Never thought I would get this excited about paying just less then $2 a gallon for gas! But it did it for me!! This is at the truck stop that is about 2 miles from the house so I plan to take advantage of it while it lasts!!

Bulletin Boards

Mr. Kelly's wife has been working on his school bulletin boards again. Worked on them Sunday afternoon.

This board is in the hallway outside his classroom.

This smaller board is in his room. I want to put the names of his students on each leaf.
This one is over Mr. Kelly's desk. I think it is very appropriate.
I took annual leave today since tomorrow is a holiday with Veteran's Day. Makes for me a long weekend. I have already vacuumed, dusted, and cleaned the aquarium.

Dead Fish Grill

We are terrible creatures of habit. We always go to the same places to eat, order the same things to eat. But this weekend we branched out. A friend had told us about a restaurant in Belton that we should try so we gave it a whirl on Saturday night. Took us about an hour to get to the Dead Fish Grill, which is on Lake Belton. Took dark for pictures of the water.
It was a cute place and it was hopping, even at 7 PM. Rather than wait on a table, we just sat at the bar to eat. Besides, we wanted to watch the Texas Tech game on the big screen tv's that were located there.
Greg got catfish and I got shrimp and we shared. It was very good.
While we were waiting for our food, we took pictures of each other, using my new lens. Check out the polka dot reading glasses.......
Still getting used to the lack of mustache.......
Neat light fixtures......old saxophones that were wired with bulbs inside the bell. We also discussed the guy's hat....
It was really a nice evening and a nice change for us.

Notice anything different??

I am not sure what brought on the mustache removal. I do know that basketball officials are normally clean shaven so that could have something to do with it.

Last Football Game

Lucas played in his last football game Friday night. He also got to speak at the pep rally.

And was a captain.Robinson won the game but unfortunately, they will not get a place in the playoffs.
Lucas and Katie after the game.
Good job, Lucas. We are proud of you!!

Waco Symphony with Waterloo

We met Mikal and Lisa after work last night at Ninfas for dinner before the concert.
I recommended this to Mikal, shrimp brochette. At one time, we ordered it quite frequently when it was an appetizer, now they have added beans and rice, and turned it into an entree. He said it was very, very good. Shrimp stuffed with cheese and jalapeno, and wrapped in bacon. Yum!!
We were full and happy at this point.
Waco Hall is on Baylor campus. We parked in a bookstore lot, after asking permission to make sure we wouldn't be towed.
Waterloo was really good. It wasn't Art Garfunkel but it was definitely enjoyable and lots of fun!!
Afterward, we had coffee and dessert. It was a great evening!!

Box

Isn't this a great box??? It was delivered to our office today. I wish it were something exciting but it is only a kiosk for the reception area. The kiosk will be set up with a computer screen where our defendants can check in by using their fingerprint and filling out a touch screen report form, at the same timer alerting the officer that their client is here to report. Sounds like they are trying to work me out of a job, huh?......
I am bringing a crowbar tomorrow. We are gonna see if we can get the kiosk out of the box without tearing the box totally apart.

Last Assignment

Our Saturday field trip for the photography class got cancelled. Hopefully it will be rescheduled. But our final assignment is "fall color". In our part of Texas, we really aren't lucky enough to have a lot of seasonal color. I walked around in the yard yesterday in the fading light after I got home from work and this is what I found. Hopefully, I can get out over the weekend and take a grouping of trees with get several colors. We are expecting a cool front tomorrow so the leaves may all be gone shortly.

This persimmon tree is in the neighbor's yard. There are quite a few on it. Their color just gets brighter and brighter as fall turns into winter.
This crepe myrtle has turned golden orange.

Jonathan at 4 months

Jonathan stayed with me for a while tonight. He was in a pretty good mood. I remembered that I had bought a bumbo chair from Craigs list so dragged it out for him. He seemed to enjoy sitting up in it. I sent it home with his mom since she probably needs it more than I do.

"Gosh, it's that woman with the camera again....."

"Huh?? What did you say?"

Date Night

I am so excited. Greg and I have a date tomorrow night!! on a week night.....can you imagine that??? We bought tickets to the Waco Symphony, with Waterloo. We are going with some friends. I work with Mikal as a probation officer and Greg calls football/basketball with him, his wife is a teacher. We have plans for dinner, then the concert. And we may even go for coffee and dessert afterwards.......

Portrait

I waited until today, the day before class, to work on my assignment. I had thought of using Jonathan but he and I don't do well together yet with pictures. I kinda had an idea what I wanted to do. I didn't want a typical photo and it involved Greg. Started out this morning with this shot.
And then this one. But the eyes just didn't seem as in focus as I wanted on either of them.
I really wanted to wait until the evening light. And of course, that came earlier tonight than usual because of the time change. Put the camera on the tripod and got some more shots. My model offered to shave but we were losing light fast.I played with this shot in Photoshop to get the silhouette look. I like it.
But this is my favorite shot of the day. I will submit this one for my class and see what the teacher thinks.
My model did a bit of complaining about how hard a job it was. But later tonight, to stop the whining, I warmed him up the last serving of apple dessert and topped it with vanilla ice cream..... :)

Jonathan

Jonathan's hair looks a little static-y.
We just don't very well alone trying to take pictures.
He was happy for a while on his tummy on the floor.
