Fredericksburg

I went to Fredericksburg, by way of Round Rock, to spend the weekend with my friend, Susan. Can't believe I ran off and left my camera at home so my sweet DIL let me borrow hers. The Chili Festival was underway, we missed the glow on Friday evening but we were sitting along the roadway at 6 AM Saturday morning, waiting on the balloons to launch.
It was still pretty dark at 6, they actually didn't take off until 7. Think it was just a trick to get us up early......
There were only 5 balloons, not near as many as will be in Waco this fall, but it is still always an awesome sight, especially if you have never seen them, as Susan hadn't.
After the balloons left, Susan wanted to go for a ride in the country, maybe try to follow the balloons. But we soon lost them and just enjoyed the beautiful Hill country drive on an early morning. So needless to say, we were surprised when we rounded a corner and the balloons were sitting down beside the road we were on.
I would hope that the homeowners knew these guys were coming!! Although I do know what it is like to step out your door and find a balloon skimming across your backyard!!
Susan and I talked, and talked, and talked, catching up on lots of news. We mostly just hung out at the house. She is a real trooper!! Her husband insisted that we look like sisters with her new "hair", he said he kinda likes her as a brunette!!
Farmer Dan and Susan Faye........love you guys lots!!! Can't wait to go back again!!

Plumb loaded with plums.....

I posted our plums on Craigslist for $1.00 a gallon, you pick em. Had a couple of people come by, I could have cared less how many plums they took home, they loaded up. I really wasn't so concerned about the money, I only put a price on them because I knew if I said they were "free", the first person that came would strip the tree!! We still have LOTS of plums left. The plums laying on the ground came off of one limb that got so heavy that it broke off the tree!!!
We picked these tonight so I can take them to work tomorrow. I am going to leave a big container of them in the breakroom in each office!!! I will get rid of them one way or the other!!

Bad Mimi.....

I almost forgot that I had a camera during Jonathan's birthday party!! I am sure Jeremy will post some good shots SOME day......I have no idea what Jonathan was doing here, it looks like his "slow motion" follow through on something.....
Charley sat still for just a minute for a couple of pictures......
And another minute to look at her book, then she was up and running again.....

The chocolate footballs were so rich, you could only eat one!!

Jonathan spends the night....

A couple of weeks ago, Jonathan spent Friday night with us. He awoke very early so I put him in bed with us. He and Papa were catching some major zzzzzz's here.....
Then it was time for a golf lesson. Papa is showing Jonathan the correct swing......Woohoo, look at that ball go!!!
It is really tough playing golf with right handed clubs when you are a left handed fella.....

More happenings....

Someone gave me another pair of parakeets, the yellow and turquoise ones. We think that they are both female, the blue one we already had and we believe it is a male. The other pair have not been successful in hatching any eggs, yet. The female has laid eggs twice but they never hatched.Petunias look pretty now but the heat will be hard on them.
The zinnias will survive the summer if I make sure to keep them watered.

Happenings at the House

Carter spent the evening with me last week, we had a great time. He is so cute and getting to be such fun!!
Jonathan spent a few nights with us while his mom and dad took a parents-only vacation to San Antonio. He was playing with his plastic golf set. He LOVES any type of sport that involves a ball--football, basketball, golf, soccer, doesn't matter to him. Mimi bought him a cute little basketball goal that he really has enjoyed!! We will call it an early birthday gift.... :)

And then there is the cat.......sleeping.......

Random Photos from the Patio

I planted this pot to go to Jeremy's house.....but then I liked it so much that I kept it.....

This metal rooster and the horned toad came from a shop close to my office that was going out of business. Greg brought the cactus home from the country a couple of years ago, he found it in a ditch across from a cemetery, we figure that it was at one time growing there. It was much smaller and was quite a challenge to plant in the pot!!
I have never had any luck with angel wing begonias....I got this from Millie when we were there last time, she was throwing it away, she has tons of them and this one didn't look too good. But with a little bit of pampering, it looks beautiful!!

A cute herb basket, it has a little of everything.

Atlantic City

The board walk.....it was different than what I expected. It was sort of like a carnival atmosphere....it was a bit dirty and kinda sleezy....
One morning the sun was shining brightly on the shore....Greg had sushi for lunch....
My sistas in crime from the south.....it was soooooo cold that first day!!!
We had a really fun time. Doubt I will ever go back, but it was fun.

Philadelphia

Finally got around to going through my photos from our trip to Philadelphia and Atlantic City.
This sandwich was yummy!!!

Thoughts

It has been a long time since I have posted anything. Paula has been doing all the posting for a long long time. A few nights ago I sat down and put a few thoughts together.

As I sit…..I think…….and….

These are the things… I think about.

These are the things… I remember.

Sitting in Granny and Pappy’s house that seemed miles from anywhere……

At night Granny would go out and gathered chickens in the dark.

The next morning we all got in the way

and chased chickens without their heads.

That evening everyone comes and we sit under the trees in the yard.

We eat fried chicken with home grown vegetables.

Sliced vine rip tomatoes- desert all of their own.

We all visit and play.

The adults play cards.

We all stay up late and play with our cousins.

As the night time descended upon us

the sky was lit by the stars of the yard, “The Fire Flies.”

They provided the light show to cap off the evening

as we all sat and talked.

It would eventually get dark

And oh so so dark it would get

and it would be time to go in.

It truly was very unspectacular but yet

It was the most spectacular time of our lives.

It was so innocent.

It was very special and we had no clue.

Having no idea about how special the time was

and that one day it could or would all be gone.

Life would become so complex.

Everything would seem to disappear.

The house would be gone.

Pappy and Granny would be gone.

We would all grow older.

We would all change.

We would all become different people.

In different times with different problems and different desires

with different perspectives.

I miss those times.

I miss those feelings.

I miss all those people.

I miss Granny and Pappy.

Oh….What I would give

To sit under the tree

and eat fried chicken with them again!

I can not have that

but I do have

The most spectacular memories.

Memories of them and everyone and

of the times we had together.

We have returned from Atlantic City!!

I think we might stop trying to travel by plane, seems everytime we do, we have issues. Bad thunderstorms yesterday at DFW, flights backed up, many cancelled. Our flight was to leave Philly at 4:50, delayed to 7 because of storms in Dallas, then once we finally got on the plane, a thunderstorm broke loose in Philly and we sat on the plane for two hours!! Finally arrived at DFW around 12:15, no more flights to Waco until today. Thought we would just rent a car and drive to Waco early this morning.....wrong. No rental companies with drop offs anywhere close to home!! Finally called Dustin to come pick us up, we got home at 6 am this morning. I am tired!!!

And Mr. Trump wanted $24.95 per day to use the internet service in our hotel room so needless to say, we were out of touch for a while.....overall, we had a good time!! Will post more pictures later.

Rainbow

We had a thunderstorm last weekend, late in the day, just before sunset. Then the clouds parted and the sun shone through, and created a gorgeous rainbow, it made a perfect half circle, in some spots it was a double rainbow. I think this photo looks unusual with all the different lighting involved.......
